The public has spoken! Québec Science's Discovery of the Year is the probe developed by COPL researcher Frédéric Leblond of Polytechnique Montréal in collaboration with Dr. Kevin Petrecca of the Montréal Neurological Institute. Over 4,300 people participated in the online survey with the probe taking in almost a third of the votes.

No bigger than a pencil, the probe is equipped with sensors and lasers to pinpoint hard to detect malignant cells lodged in brain tissue. With this technology, it is possible to remove these cells during surgery therefore diminishing the risk of a relapse.
