Université de Sherbrooke's growth and outreach are fuelled by a compelling tradition of innovation. The university contributes to the advancement of Quebec society by offering academic programs that stand out by their quality and originality and by committing to research performed at the highest level.
COPL researchers at Université de Sherbrooke specialize mainly in biophotonics. Prof. Paul Charette's work focusses on fabrication and characterization of miniature components and devices designed to study biological systems. His research projects are interdisciplinary and involve photonics, electronics, material sciences, signal analysis, biochemistry and medicine.
Prof. Yves Bérubé Lauzière is developing a non-contact scanner for small animals using fluorescence diffuse optical tomography. His research aims at imaging internal anatomy, via the intrinsic properties of tissue as well as biomolecular processes ongoing within the organism, using fluorescent markers. The work covers all aspects of scanner development: optical design and fabrication, electronic and mechanical support, phantom fabrication, computer controls, 3D computer vision, algorithm development, Monte-Carlo simulations.
