For over 50 years now, Université Laval has trained specialists in optics and photonics. The university possesses a critical mass of researchers whose expertise covers all aspects of the field. It also boasts the only building on a university campus in Canada totally devoted to optics and photonics research. In addition to these well-equiped facilities, Laval has an experienced technical staff to support student research activities. It is therefore well-suited to provide an incomparable academic experience recognized not only in Quebec and Canada, but internationally as well.
Université Laval has established MSc and PhD programs in Biophotonics where optics and photonics applications in biology are explored in terms of fundamental research, diagnostics and biomedical intervention. To learn more about the programs, visit this web site.
Meanwhile, if you are interested in undertaking graduate studies in optics and photonics, you must hold an undergraduate degree in physics, chemistry, electrical engineering or a related field. You must send a letter outlining your research interests along with a transcript of your marks and a recent résumé to copl@copl.ulaval.ca or you can contact a Université Laval COPL member directly in order to inquire about available opportunities.
General registration information for Université Laval can be found on the Registrar's web page.
The COPL has its own student association called REPOL (Regroupement des étudiants en photonique et optique de Laval). The association is very active and organizes outreach activities, scientific popularization events and workshops. To stay abreast of activities, visit their website.
